The 1198 with trellis frame and dry clutch is a hoot to ride. However the dry clutch will make your hand go numb in a hour. Not meant for city traffic. The 1199 has better electronics but it's too torquey. Also the first production 1199 has some gremlins. The later year models are better. A Guy did the entire continent of Australia and back. A typical modern automotive engine will last 250,000 miles with proper maintenance. The rpm range is usually between 800-6000rpm, and cruise is at 2000 rpm. A typical motorcycle engine has an rpm range of 1200-9500, and cruise is at 4000. The Italian bikes need to be serviced more frequently and at a higher cost. Period. Non negotiable. They make more power, but cost more money. It's maintenance where you will need to inspect and adjust the engine valves every few thousand miles. From what I read, it's not a cheap service to do unless you are comfortable to do them yourself. The testasretta in your previous Diabel did have a lot of low-end grunt, it was also set up with camshafts to support low end torque, but as you crest 9000 RPM you really didn't get much more out of it before it redlined at 11000. And the Ducati's do seem to require more work to gain access to Normal Maintrnace items like the Air filter, Spark plug, Oil/Filter, and in Ducati's case the Belt. The v2 is almost as uncomfortable as the v4. The supersport is very comfortable. The v2 and v4 have crazy heat, the v4 gave me blisters through my jeans while I was going 65 on the highway. Still, if youre willing to put up with all the disadvantages and just really wanna ride a panigale, I don't blame, I'm like that. Then the clutch went bad. After numerous attempts by the Ducati maintenance guys to flush the line and refill, they find some sort of issue with a push rod not functioning properly. Street vs 1100 Evo, I'd go Evo but understand that Triumph maintenance in those years is closer to Japanese bike maintenance. The Ducati will require more attention and more expensive service costs.
